A
Page from Our Book DECEMBER 15, 2004 Saturday past, Mrs Clause made an appearance at the library and read Christmas stories to more than 25 children and numerous parents. Her selections included "The Night Before Christmas," "Spot's Magical Christmas," and everyone's new favorite "The Polar Express." A recording of "Bark the Herald Angels" was played, and the children were delighted to hear dogs singing. Mrs Clause had a tub full of presents she passed out to the children, and after those were opened, the children were invited to receive a second gift. Typical gifts included holiday theme tree ornaments, refrigerator magnets, and whatnots. Refreshments consisted of black seedless grapes and apple slices in a cup. The special Christmas Story-time on Saturday is an annual event featuring Mrs Clause. Doris Ann Raby was a library member, probably since the library first established memberships. She enjoyed leafing through old newspapers on our microfilm reader (we have the Gravette News Herald on microfilm from its inception in 1894 through 1997). Doris loved a good mystery, and especially liked the James Patterson books. In recent years, as our audio book section swelled, she read her stories by listening to them on tape. Upon her death, her niece asked that donations be made to the library in lieu of flowers, and the library was the recipient of $375.00 in donations. We
have begun an audio book section called "In Memory of Doris Ann Raby"
and we are using those donations to stock it. This new section does not have to
be restricted to what we can buy, but can include your contributions of audio
books as well. If you have books on tape you would like to give to the library,
and you want the mysteries placed on her shelf, please tell us when you bring
the tapes in to us. Return toPublished Articles Menu |
