April is National Poetry Month. The Home School Program for the month of April has been celebrating Poetry. Several of the children have written their own poems. The Gravette Public Library would like to share there wonderful poems with you.
By Nathan Whitlow: Basketball is fun to play. I like to play it everyday. I love to play with my Dad. When I win, I am so glad.
By Jillian Brown: Friends are loyal. Friends are kind. Friends are never left behind.
By Gabriel Brandli: My T-Rex. My T-Rex and I play in the trees; I need to remind him not to eat everything he sees. One time he almost stepped on my dad, sometimes he can be really bad. One day he gave my mom quite a scare, when he dripped some drool in her hair. I feed him lots of giant mice, sometimes I have to feed him twice. I hope the police don’t take him away, because this is the place he wants to stay.
By Tres Brandli: My Dragon. I hide my dragon in the shed. He’s much too big to fit under my bed. At night he flies for miles and miles. He eats his food in gigantic piles. He slurps and burps up all his food. Some people may find him very rude. He almost roasted an old man’s house. He almost toasted the old man’s spouse. His roar can be heard in Little Rock. Out on the road I still here some talk. One day he burnt our new plasma TV. And of course everyone blamed it on me. Someday I’ll show him to all my friends. This is how my poem ends.
By Olivia Martin: Spookendyke. I was riding my bike. When I met a big donkey. Whose name was Spookendyke. He said “My dear, you see, I like your bike. And he stole it from under me.
Also by Olivia Martin: Mud Play. I like to play in mud. It’s squishy between my toes. It’s in my ears and on my nose. And now I know, to bath I go.
By Emma Martin: The Little Turtle. There once was a little turtle. Who lived under some trees, that were gleaming with leaves. Where he always sneezed. So the turtle said to himself, “God Bless Me!”
By Jadzia Brandli: Spring. When the wind blows from the south, like sweetest breath, it rushes out. And over ground where snow once had fallen, now lies spring soft and calm. Skies are clear, nights are best. A painted scene before you rests. Dews from the heavens, the tiniest rays, a beautiful moment, when the first butterfly plays. Come summer, come fall, come what winter may bring. Because it’s after our winter, come heavenly spring. The sun sits, as a fiery ball, behind wooded trees, before the night falls. The first of the flowers when trees grow their leaves. A world of great beauty, this is our spring.
